I was helping my friend set up his Christmas tree today when we were listening to his holiday soundtrack and all of the sudden Mr. Hanky The Christmas Poo from South Park came on. I cannot believe I had actually forgotten about this song. Not only do I love Mr. Hanky, but the song is hilarious. Sort of gross, but completely funny. Especially if you like toilet humor.
If you used to watch South Park, then you’ll remember the holiday episodes when Kyle was feeling alone because he is Jewish on Christmas. Because he felt alone, he was able to meet his new friend, because he had a lot of fiber in his diet, Mr Hanky The Christmas Poo. Not only did Mr. Hanky help to cheer Kyle up, and sort of make everyone think he was insane, but he also created one of the most addictive and memorable holiday songs of all time. The nice thing about Mr. Hanky The Christmas Poo from South Park is that he doesn’t care what religion or color you are. As long as you are a good person who eats a lot of fiber, he’ll visit you on Christmas.
I remember in one episode he went missing so Kyle and his friends went looking for him. When they found him, he ended up becoming depressed because kids and people didn’t believe in Christmas anymore, however he ended up having a family and the family was just as funny. Mr. Hanky The Christmas Poo from South Park is one of my all time favorite holiday characters, along with Frosty and all of the other ones and his episodes on South Park always crack me up. Although it isn’t technically a showtune from broadway, I definitely think some TV showtunes can be added to this blog everyonce in a while, so here is Mr. Hanky the Christmas Poo from South Park. I apologize for the video I am showing. I couldn’t find a good recording of it, but I did find a video of someone who recorded the Mr. Hanky The Christmas Poo song from South Park from their tv.
So I was driving home listening to Seth Rudetsky on Sirius XM as always when he played the Cast of Hairspray singing the Dreidel song. Not only did the Cast of Hairspray singing the dreidel song sound really familiar, but I could have sworn I had heard it somewhere else before. When I got home I went onto Youtube and sure enough I found out where I had heard it before, on South Park!
The difference between the South Park characters singing the dreidel song and the cast of Hairspray singing the driedel song is that the cast of Hairspray sounds amazing singing the South Park version. Not only do they break out into perfect harmony, but when you combine people like Harvey Fierstein into the song it just becomes even more amazing. I still don’t know who I prefer singing the offensive part, Harvey Fierstein or Eric Cartmen, but from a fellow Jew it is much less offensive since Cartmen is actually being serious with the negative comments.
Before you leave any negative comments or say that I am anti Judaism, I am a Jew and I love being Jewish. This song is hilarious and for some reason the person who put it on youtube actually tried to match it to disney movies. Certain parts match up well but most of it doesn’t. Regardless, the Cast of Hairspray singing the Dreidel Song to Disney Movies is absolutely hilarious and perfect for Hanukah. There are other versions of the song to other Disney clips available on Youtube and if you’d like to buy the cd with this song and others, I highly recommend visiting Broadway Cares which is the Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS website. They are a great organization and have a million fabulous broadway gifts for Christmas and Hanukah. BTW, if anyone is reading this and wants to buy me a gift, the Broadway Cares Christmas CD with the Cast of Hairspray sing the Dreidel song would make a perfect gift. Here is the video of the Cast of Hairspray sings the Dreidel song. Feel free to leave a comment below and visit the Broadway Cares website for your holiday shopping and to help donate to a charity that helps to find a cure for AIDS.
So when thinking about how to top the other gay moments and gay videos from Broadway and Showtunes for this big gay week on BroadwayReviewed.com, I originally thought to make a tribute to Julie Andrews in Victor Victoria but that isn’t gay enough, just fabulous and a supporter of the theatre and I believe of the gay community.
I then thought why not show the gay couple from Rent, but then again even though Rent did bring gay couples kissing to life and gay sex to life on the main stream broadway screen, it was more known for AIDS and AIDS awareness and although I am a huge supporter of Broadway Cares, this week is about gay on broadway so I decided Rent just wasn’t good enough.
I had already talked about Harvey Fierstein and the Liza Minelli Scene from Cabaret when she finds out her boyfriend and lover is bi is already over done. We could have done Sean Hayes, Neil Patrick Harris or tons of other Actors and Actresses who are gay or support the gay community and theatre, but when I really thought about what could top The Gay Bears performing I say a little prayer from Glee or Tap Dancing Drag Queens there is only one big gay celebrity with one big gay song in a huge big gay anthem and that diva of the stage and screen is none other than Big Gay Al from South Park’s Movie Musical Bigger, Longer Uncut. Heck even the name is gay.
Not only does Big Gay Al take being big and being gay to a new level, but he does it in front over thousands of military men, I know, every gay man’s dream come true. Anyways, Big Gay Al takes his big gay show and makes a big gay splash in the movie South Park Musical Movie Bigger Longer Uncut and his performance is amazing. He has flash flair, piano, dancers and everything else you would expect from a spoof performance and a diva. To finish off my big gay week on Broadway the only possible thing that tops some of our other clips could be Big Gay Al and his big gay song I’m Super from the South Park Movie Musical Bigger, Longer, Uncut.
Thank you all for reading and enjoy the clip below. If you like it feel free to comment below as well.
