Into The Woods Movie Trailer Must See! Buy Into The Woods Here

Posted by & filed under , , .

I was completely excited when they announced that they were filming a new stage version of Into the Woods for BlueRay and DVD and even more excited when I found out they were/are supposed to shoot a new movie version starring Maryl Streep.  I never actually did get to see the trailer for the new Into The Woods movie, but when I was going into YouTube to get a different showtune to share today, I came across and Into the woods movie trailer with a live stage version that is actually available and the show looks amazing.

Compared to the previous stage recording of Into the woods starring Bernadette Peters, they redid the set, went overboard with the costumes (wait until you see the witch in the movie trailer) and really did an amazing job.  I almost wish I went to see this stage version when I was in London instead of going to see The Bodyguard Musical, but The Bodyguard did turn out to be a great show, after you survive the first act which is horrible.  Anyways, unlike The Bodyguard which went from being a movie to a show, Into The Woods is another show that was turned into a Movie.  In the Into The Woods movie trailer above, it unfortunately isn’t the movie version that I thought was coming out or being filmed but instead is a stage recording of the revival with an amazing cast and incredible updates to the set and costuming.

If you aren’t familiar with the show, Into The Woods is about a bunch of fairytale characters and how they are all mixed together, react with each other and try to solve problems.  Each one has their own goals, their own issues and each one uses a different approach to get what they want.  The show is filled with amazing showtunes and classic broadway songs including Into The Woods, On the Steps of the Palace, No one is Alone, Lament and of course Children Will Listen which is probably the most famous showtune from Into The Woods.  The new stage recording looks amazing and is definitely worth checking out.  Feel free to leave a comment about the Into The Woods Movie Trailer and feel free to share this post on Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter.

It Takes Two from Into The Woods – Because We Alll Have Those Friends

Posted by & filed under , , .

I love the song It Takes Two from Into The Woods. It’s a song about how it takes two people to have a kid or a child, but also can be heard as it takes two to pull off a scheme, plan an awesome night out or even just cause trouble with a friend. I think everyone can relate to this song when you think about your best friend or someone who you absolutely love to see and cause trouble with.

We all had our best friend in high school or college where we would be excited to see them because the two of you would always have an awesome time.  You would constantly pull pranks on each other or plan them for other people.  You would be the first one in line to get a shot if they were celebrating and the first person to call their ex a b*tch or be there with really bad food ready to listen when they were upset.  That’s why I love this song.  It reminds me of my old friends and group where we were always ready to have an awesome time.

My old best friend and I were pretty much in-seperable and people were always confused if they saw one of us without the other.  I think some people actually thought the two of us were dating or a couple for a while, until I met my ex boyfriend and they realized there was no way we would ever hookup…she was female lol.  Most of us are happy that the days when we would go out partying until 4 and 5 in the morning are over when we had to be up at 7 or 8 in the morning for a final or school, but we love to remember and think about them.  That’s one of the reasons I love this song.

I always think of my old friends and a few of my old best friends who I used to always call when I wanted to go out or ever got depressed.  I know some of you are going to disagree with me that that is not what this song is about, but you can always pull the song out of the show and add it to a different one which can completely change the meaning.  Feel free to leave a comment below with what the song It Takes Two from Into The Woods means to you.

Broadway Showtunes about Vegetables – Because I’m on a Diet.

Posted by & filed under , , .

I know I haven’t posted for about a week but that’s because I’ve been dieting so I’ve been in a completely b*tchy mood. Anyways, the diet means no fun food, limited cocktails (that is not happening) and eating healthy things like vegetables. The thing I hate most is hearing vegetables every time I want to eat and I also wake up completely hungry in the middle of the night. That’s why I was thinking about showtunes and instantly thought of the perfect ones about vegetables and vegetables causing a lack of sleep. Oddly enough both are from pretty popular shows but aren’t the most well known. The first is from Into the Woods and the second one is from Once Upon a Mattress.

Greens, Greens and Nothing but Greens from Into The Woods.

This showtune about vegetables is literally all about vegetables and greens. The wicked witch goes on a rampage about how the Baker was going through her garden stealing her vegetables. She then starts to name all of her vegetables that he ruined or stole and gets more and more mad. Not only does her rant sound sort of like what grocery shopping sounds like right now, but it is absolutely the perfect showtune that is all about vegetables.

Sensitivity from Once Upon a Mattress

If you’ve ever dieted than you know what it’s like to wake up in the middle of the night starving. No matter what you do you cannot fall back asleep because all you want to do is eat. No matter what you do you cannot get comfortable enough to actually go back to sleep and that is why I love the Pea song from Once Upon a Mattress. In the song the Queen places a pea underneath a ton of mattresses to try and prove that the princess isn’t really a princess or worthy of marrying the prince. If she cannot sleep because of the pea under a ton of mattresses then she really is a princess and if she can sleep then she isn’t. The entire song is about a pea and how it can effect your sleep so it is completely perfect for my post about showtunes about vegetables.

If you are on a diet and have to eat a ton of vegetables or have a favorite showtune about vegetables, please feel free to share it by leaving a comment below. You can also share this post on Twitter and Facebook by clicking on the icons above. Thank you again for reading and for sharing the post.

Into The Woods by Stephen Sondheim Reviewed

Posted by & filed under , , , .

One of the shows that I think really ended up making me fall in love with Broadway and always be a permanent fan has got to be a classic Stephen Sondheim show, Into the Woods.  Into the woods is a story about life lessons, greed, envy, happiness, love, sharing, adultery and pretty much everything else the Church warns you about and adds in some music and dancing.  There is murder and plotting and even love and shopping and while you’re watching the mass chaos of a show with a million twists and turns, you’re also watching it from the perspective of your favorite childhood characters acting it out from their own perspectives.

Into the woods is actually the story of storybook characters coming to life and how they interact with each other.  You have Cinderella and her ugly stepsisters.  You have Red Riding Hood and an anatomically correct Big Bad Wolf.  A Rapunzel who is locked in a tower by a Wicked Witch.  Jack who climbs a bean stock and disobeys his mother.  You have kings and princes, you have mentions of Snow White and you have the Baker and his Wife and many more of your favorite storybook characters.  The thing that you have to remember is that the actual storybook stories aren’t always the way that Disney likes to make you think they happened.

Disney is about making everything have a happy ending and removing all of the gore and bad parts of stories.  Into the Woods on Broadway actually kept the original story lines and even though I love the Disney version I have to say that the original stories are much better.  You have the stepsisters cutting off their feet to fit into glass slippers and you have Cinderella talking to a tree which represents her Mother instead of a Fairy Godmother (which Whitney Houston did an amazing job performing in the Movie version of Cinderella starring Brandy).   You have all of the characters living their lives the way the stories were originally told and then slowly each of them find one way or another to interact with each other and eventually everyone ends up in one big fairy tale with all of their paths crossed and you finally get to see who the hero’s are and who is really a coward.  I love that the Witch turns out to be the smart one, not necessarily the “nice” one but the practical one.  You have the people who want to do only good but never really address that while saving one or two lives they still murder someone else.  I hate that the show doesn’t ever bring that part up but then again it would end up being an extra half hour if they had to.  I almost feel bad for the female Giant who ends up getting slaughtered because of decision of the Hero’s to protect themselves and the two kids they end up taking on as their own. The Witch in Into the Woods is who sold me on the show originally.

I was in my car and heard a rap about vegetables on a mixtape and thought it was the coolest thing.  I still have no idea where it came from.  When I asked everyone I knew who sang it it turned out to be none other than the fabulous Bernadette Peters playing the title role of the Witch.  Not only did I become a fan of the show but I also became a fan of Bernadette Peters and quickly went to go find other shows she had been in.  The thing is that even though you may fall in love with a cast or a certain voice playing a part, if it was before YouTube.com or they never recorded that cast then the talent and show is lost forever to the people who were not able to get to see the show in person.  Luckily when it came to Into the Woods, the cast that starred Bernadette Peters was recorded and released on video so I not only got to see her perform the character of the Wicked Witch but I also got to watch it over and over again.

The songs from Into the Woods have been made famous not only because of the fact that they were in a Stephen Sondheim show and performed by Bernadette Peters, but other famous singers and Broadway Stars like Barbra Streisand have picked up the songs and made their own twists on them.  The soundtrack to Into the Woods is one of the most beautiful soundtracks if you like classic musical theatre.  They don’t have the ballads or ensemble of Andrew Lloyd Weber or the fun and exciting styles of Rent or Rock Operas but what they do have is the timeless and classic Stephen Sondheim touch and spirit that every broadway fan loves.

Into the Woods is an amazing show and perfect for almost all ages.  The show would be boring and probably not one parents would want little kids to see but if you have teenagers and older kids and want a fun night out at the theatre, you cannot go wrong with Into the Woods if you want to watch your favorite childhood fairy tales come to life and all of them get mixed together.  I give Into the Woods 3 out of 5 stars.
