I love the Muppets. When you combine happy music like Christmas Songs and happy things like the Muppets you cannot lose. Because of that I wanted to do something to cheer myself up since I have the flu and post the top ten Muppets Christmas songs. Although they are somewhat in order, there is no specific order for my favorite Muppets Christmas songs. They are all amazing, funny have special guests or are just insane which is why I love them. Here are my favorite Muppets Christmas Songs and I hope they help to cheer you up or make you feel better too. (more…)
One of my favorite things to watch growing up were the muppets. I actually still love to watch their movies today. The songs are great, the characters are awesome and the jokes are great for people of all ages. With Halloween in one week, I thought of one of my favorite Muppets Movies, Muppets Treasure Island and because I love Halloween, I always get excited to go out. Because of that I instantly though of the song Cabin Fever from The Muppets Treasure Island movie.
The Muppets Treasure Island movie is a parody of the classic story. They have all of the main characters from the book, but some of them are replaced by Muppets, some are humans and there is a ton of extra things added in and of course showtunes and comedy routines. You can’t expect the Muppets to take on a classic story and not turn it into a comedy. Luckily they kept the story in tact and actually did go to far away from the book. That’s another one of the reasons I love movies like Muppets Treasure Island. They take a story and keep the main theme and major scenes in tact. Instead of keeping everything serious, they add in a ton of jokes, comedy and music which makes it fun for everyone. The song Cabin Fever from The Muppets Treasure Island is an awesome addition to the book and the movie.
The pirates are stuck on their ship for weeks at a time and they are all starting to go crazy. Instead of just talking about going crazy and wanting to take over the ship with a full mutiny, the Muppets take over and turn it into a salsa song and dance routine that you would expect to come from someone like Gloria Estefan. The song Cabin Fever from Muppets Treasure Island is absolutely hilarious and a perfect fit for Halloween if you are playing videos along with a soundtrack for your Halloween party. The movie is awesome and so is the soundtrack. It isn’t my favorite Muppets movie or song, but it is definitely in the top of them for me.
This week on Facebook two of my friends announced that they are finally getting married. I know I haven’t been posting as much as normal but work has kept me seriously busy. Anyways, the two friends who are getting married are the sweetest couple on earth, but they kind of remind me of the Muppets a bit. The one is silly and goofy and the other is funny but a bit more serious. I don’t want to out and say who they are because a bunch of you may know them, and if you do know them then you’ll know why Somebody’s Getting Married from the Muppets Take Manhattan is the perfect song for them.
I always love when the Muppets do a ridiculous song like Somebody’s Getting Married. Not only do they find a way to make you laugh by throwing in the Swedish Chef or the guy who throws the fish, but they also get you in the mood to want to sing a long, laugh and actually think you are seeing a real event like a wedding. A couple of my favorite parts of the song Somebody’s Getting Married from the Muppets Take Manhattan is when they have all of the bears in the airplanes for no real reason at all. The random things they put in like that or the random rats skating around and farm animals coming out of no where to create a chorus. Somehow Jim Henson was able to create the most unrealistic world and have everything in it become a reality. That sort of reminds me of their relationship since I’ve known them.
The two of them have been together for a long time and all of us were wondering when they were finally going to get married. They know everything about each other including a random Krispy Kreme fetish and having to have one all the time to knowing when to back off and how to prepare the perfect meal for the other person when they are having a bad day or even to celebrate. The two of them are absolutely perfect for each other and that’s why when they finally got engaged this past week everyone just said it’s about time. It also instantly made me think of the song Somebody’s Getting Married from The Muppets Take Manhattan. This is one of my favorite songs from the Muppets Movies and I’m excited that I finally get to use it on this site without having to do a top ten wedding showtunes post.
If there is one holiday movie musical that makes everyone smile and laugh it has to be the Muppet Christmas Carol. Not only do the Muppets take this classic story and add all of their own twists and jokes to it, but you absolutely have to love the reactions from the actor that plays Scrooge. Not only does he get to live in a world of ghosts and spirits, but the ghosts and spirits are also Muppets which are a bit crazy and extremely off. Not only do I love the Muppets, but when you take one of the most well known holiday stories, add in music and showtunes and then take an Actor who can play along and keep up with them, you have a guaranteed classic Muppet Movie. One of my favorite scenes from the Muppet Christmas Carol has to be when Scrooge meets the ghost of Christmas Present.
The Ghost of Christmas Present in the Muppets Christmas Carol is a bit off. Not only is he happy and perky, but he lacks almost any short term memory. He can change size and teleport himself and others as well as almost appear to be alive. Something about the people controlling this muppet make him almost believable as a real person. Everything from the voice and the emotion behind him when he is sitting in the room where Scrooge meets him to watching him walk down the street and have an amazing presence that takes your eyes off of everything else. For some reason you cannot stop watching him and he just makes you want to smile and be happy. Everything about the ghost of Christmas present in the Muppets Christmas Carol is happy and everything he talks about is why Christmas is an amazing time. Even his song is about how the holidays should make you happy.
It feels like Christmas is one of my favorite songs from the Muppet Christmas Carol. Not only is it fun to sing along with, but when you add in the ghost of Christmas present and a ton of the other muppets, you have a great holiday classic. I absolutely love The Muppets Christmas Carol and will probably try to find it online to watch this weekend. The Muppets Christmas Carol is a great version of the story of Scrooge and if you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend it.
If you’ve been wondering if you should see the Muppets movie or not, you have to. I was embarrassed wanting to go because its a kids movie, but when I posted on Facebook, I got about 12 responses from friends who wanted to go. The Muppets movie is 100% worth going to see. I don’t care if you’re an adult or a kid, everyone loves the Muppets and this movie was great. Even if you don’t have kids, it’s fun to watch the movie and remember them from when you were a kid. If you need another reason to go, watch this video. It’s Gonzo’s chicken Camilla singing Forget You by Cee Lo Green.
Not only is this video freaking hilarious, but it almost puts the Cee Lo Green performance at the Grammy’s with Gwenyth Paltrow to shame. How can you compete with back up muppets when you have the real muppets coming in and performing the song…except it is a completely poultry sung version? Not only was I cracking up watching the Camilla Forget You Video from the Muppet Movie, but my friends were also laughing their butts off.
The one thing that I love about the Muppets is that they are for everyone of all ages. They also bring broadway stars to the main screen and main stream media outlets because they have always been huge supporters of theatre. Back when they were popular, Ethel Merman and many others were already huge, but when you combine them with the Muppets, the show is amazing. I think that everyone on earth has to love the Muppets. It is almost impossible to not love at least one of them. Everyone from the Swedish Chef to Kermit, Miss Piggy and even the skating rats are hilarious and fun to watch.
Anyways, there were a ton of great songs and showtunes from the new muppets movie. I think the one that best describes the movie and the muppets in general is the Muppets version of Forget You by Camilla the chicken. Not only does she completely work the song, but they actually get you singing a long with it. It wasn’t the best song or most memorable song from the movie, but if there was one song that would make you want to go see the new muppets movie, it has to be Camilla singing Forget You from the Muppets Movie. Anyways, if you haven’t seen the new muppets movie, you have to. It is absolutely worth seeing. Feel free to leave a comment below with your favorite muppets song or movie or part from this movie.
